- Summary
- Swedish immigrant Inga Linberg arrives in Uppsala, Iowa, in the late nineteenth century and takes a job caring for the sick mother and two young nieces of dairy farmer Dirk Bridger, and though she chides her sisters for their infatuation with the handsome and hardworking Dirk, she cannot hide the growing truth that she too would like to attract his attention
- Summary
- Plain, competent Inga Linberg never expected a chance at love. She has lived vicariously through the adventures of friends she made on the trip from Europe to New York (their stories are chronicled in Dear Lady and In His Arms) and expects to help her younger sisters through their own romances. However, when farmer Dirk Bridger asks for someone to help in his house--his mother is dying and he is trying to raise his orphaned nieces on an isolated Iowa farm--Pastor Linberg sees Inga as the ideal solution. She brings relief and even joy to the Bridger household. The young girls blossom under her loving care, Dirk's mother can die in peace, and even Dirk begins to feel an attraction to this caring young woman. However, before the story reaches its satisfying conclusion, tragedy, along with loss of faith and loss of love, must strike, leaving the family even stronger. For readers of the prairie romances of Jeanette Oke. -- Description by: Joyce Saricks
